Unfortunately they've all been given to immigrants. A council house has just come up near us and I know people on the waiting list (some for quite a while), it's been given to Romanians...

...and "they" (left wing liberal elite) wonder why born here British resent the incomers.

The "Points" system was abandoned in favour of the "Needs" system.

Thus anyone rolling up with a few kids usually gets the first available property, even if they have just arrived in this country and have never been on a waiting list here.

Add to that that the Bedroom "Tax" filling one-bedroom homes with singles or childless couples to allow 2 or 3 bedroom homes to become available for families of whatever origin, and you have an instant lack of one-bedroom flats or homes for the homing of the indigent.

But in no way does that act as an incentive for people, migrants or otherwise, to have kids they can't afford to support...

I've seen plenty of documentaries where homeless people have been given houses only to give them up after a short while because they prefer to be 'off the grid' so to speak.Obviously this doesn't speak for all but don't assume that just because someone is homeless they want a house

I'm sure there are some who become habitualised after a period of time sleeping rough but what a sad state we're in when we're allowing this to happen often so very close to the most huge wealth such as in C. London and our other major towns/cities.

Shelter have a good simple article here as to why it people may be homeless: http://england.shelter.org.uk/campai...s_homelessness

I think poverty pays an obvious role but there seem to be so many other factors.

Yes i know some actually choose to be homeless we have such a guy in our town he's been homeless by choice for over 20 years and prefers it to being trapped as he puts it. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to get something in place in winter to prevent people freezing to death and quite a few homeless are former service people who are homeless for other reasons.

Plans have been revealed to axe millions from Birmingham’s homeless budget – a week after a destitute rough sleeper died on the city's streets.

A total of £10 million is set to be taken out of Birmingham City Council’s homeless and domestic abuse budgets over two years, as part of a wider package of proposed cutbacks.

This comes after the council admitted it had to find £78 million to balance the books.
I suspect matters are going to worsen..

Councils, like the NHS, are trying to rely more and more on charitable organisations. But the charities are tightening their belts too.

Of course if we cancelled the £12 BILLION we give to foreign countries in terms of aid there would be plenty to go around.
