I remember when we didn't get bank holidays in lieu of a national holiday on a weekend and New Years Day wasn't a holiday either..

By the way holiday is just a shortened version of Holy Day..;)

It's a holiday, like Easter, not a religious festival to most these days.

Ditto the saints days in Ireland and Scotland. Do the Irish and Scots flood to church to celebrate their national saint? Or do they flood to the pub?

That is not the point of the topic. It's that business shouldn't fear calling Christian festivals by their Christian name and allowing it to be celebrated as such. No one would force you to join in a carol service but their shouldn't be any fear of holding one.

When I was based at our site at Crawley Court we (as the site Christian group) organised a carol service at the nearby parish church for those working on the site. We had a good turn out and raised money for a local charity. Site now owned by Arqiva but those still at that location are still organising a service. I miss it.
