Not only that - WHY DO WE PAY ROAD TAX FOR. Answers on reply please

There's no such thing as road tax Arthur; that's a term from ye olden days. Road repairs are funded from general taxation. Some vehicle owners do pay vehicle excise duty which you may think is a road tax but it is for vehicle emissions (VED - Vehicle Excise Duty).

It is often demanded that cyclists should pay road tax and most already do from general taxation. The emissions that cyclists make are not of the same toxic type that come from vehicle exhausts and farting, to date anyway, is not taxed whether you're in a car, on a bike or typing on a forum *parp*. Oops excuse me .

Haven't read the whole thread but are we talking about road works?

Because they've got very annoying. The Tories implemented a policy whereby companies had to pay for the time they took causing them to do it quickly didn't they? Have they removed it? Recently I have noticed road works which last longer and never seem to have anyone actually working on them! One very busy road near me on the outskirts of the M25 has had roadworks causing long backups and there hasn't been anyone there all weekend. The works have sat there unmanned for at least two days causing chaos. It's absurd.

Some in my town even set my Dashcam in to Emergency Recording mode, as it thinks its been in a collision.
