Re: The Great British Bake Off

The deal was done by its "chief creative officer" Jay Hunt. It's fair to say she's not universally liked and the GBBO train wreck has given her former underlings at the BBC (where she was controller of BBC1) something to chuckle about.

Not only did they not secure the presenters but it turns out there is a clause in the deal which, unless the BBC explicitly allow it, means they have to skip a year and not air it in 2017: https://www.theguardian.com/media/20...ake-off-launch

Which means not only can the BBC bring out a rival show with the same team but they can have it uncontested and into it's second season by the time C4 can air their show. Not to mention this new show, with the old team, will have the full weight of the BBC behind it! Ads pushing it in in-between their main shows etc.

Oh and hats off to the BBC for their statement:

Quote:

“When they bought the programme, Channel 4 knew the terms under which they were doing so,” said a BBC source. “They can’t now have their cake and eat it too.”
