It seems the Southern rail commuters blame the 'incompetent management' more then they blames the unions*for poor services and not employing enough staff it seems..

Of course they do. A below-radar sickness absence non-strike is designed to have that effect.

Or it could be that southern don't have enough staff and relied on people doing overtime to cover the gaps, then they messed with rotas, overtime allocation and used bully boy tactics, can't be much of a surprise that people don't want to help, create an atmosphere where moral is as low as a Chinese sweatshop where suicide is often preferable to doing a shift then this is a result. It's almost as if the management have an underlying agenda.
