Noticed a lot of these NHS bashing stories starting to appear in the right wing press. The Torygraph was having a go at consultants not being available at weekends yesterday (which is cobblers, although they may not do routine stuff there's always someone on call).

Think we are being softened up for the 'NHS isn't fit for purpose' line , and need Dave's chums in private sector to 'help' . That 8 billion of money he promised has gone a bit quiet post election, and all we are hearing is how cuts are needed. Oh, electorate, how daft you have been...

Sorry, are you saying it's factually incorrect that there are half the number of consultants working at the weekend as compared to Monday-Friday, even though the patient requirements are the same?

Well, at least the current Government is doing something to ensure we get an NHS that can operate 24/7. Labour were totally incompetent in their handling of GP contracts, the Mid Staffs hospital crisis, expensive PFI contracts, etc. The NHS was certainly not safe in their hands because had this bad management continued, they would no longer be able to function. The money would simply have run out.

The Conservatives are now working to give us a better service for a lot less. Whatever you think of the Tories, you cannot justifiably criticise them for that.

Incidentally, private sector involvement in the NHS actually increased in the 13 years of Labour government!

The usual suspects always blame the 'right wing press' for something or other when NHS reform is in the air... :D I'm still waiting for someone from Homerton Hospital (or anywhere else for that matter) to explain and justify their actions but I dare say their too busy banging on about govt. cuts.

Or possibly it's something to do with tackling the 15% increased risk of dying in hospital if admitted on a weekend......'coz there aren't enough doctors & consultants around :dozey:
