Re: Ripping CDs now illegal again
I don't know many people that buy CDs anymore, they are still overpriced in today's market. Also it takes longer to rip a CD than it does to download one.

Re: Ripping CDs now illegal again
I read the article and I admit I am confused.
Someone please explain to me why the music companies need compensating if someone makes their own personal backup copy? |
Re: Ripping CDs now illegal again
Most of the titles I buy are on CD. The only exceptions (and they are very few) are when the physical title is unavailable or at least very difficult to get hold of.
- The music is uncompressed - You may get some artwork which is part of the package the artist wishes to present to the fan/listener - You're not lining the pockets of the likes of Apple or even worse Spotify who treat music as a service to sell and not as an art form to be respected leaving some artists feeling that they're treated with utter contempt and with minimal recompense So I will rip my uncompressed CD at a bitrate of my choice and copy it to a mobile device/storage to listen to in the car, gym or wherever. I'm not paying some download or streaming service again to pay for the same thing twice. |

I copy my CD and play it in the car.
Masters are in my house. |

Re: Ripping CDs now illegal again
I wonder how many of the Copyright owners and big record companies and that includes recording artist are using tax avoidance schemes.
Seems they want it both ways. |
