Re: Plane crashes in French Alps kills 150 people
.. and if he'd wanted to kill more, he could have flown it into a populated area.
If it's true that the pilot asked to go to the toilet, it seems almost like an opportunist act, although I guess it wouldn't be uncommon for pilots to need a break even on fairly short flights so anyone intent of doing this sort of thing wouldn't need to wait too long before the chance arose. |

You'd have thought that would be reasonable. According to one 'expert' on the BBC, apparently there are means by which to open a cockpit door if, for example, the pilots are incapacitated for some reason but, this can be prevented by someone on the flight deck which seems to be what happened here.

Re: Plane crashes in French Alps kills 150 people
Common procedure on modern aircraft is that the cabin door is locked when shut, but can be opened via a keypad. This allows the crew to come and go as required without needing to be let in all the time. But post 9/11 security changes have resulted in a manual lock being fitted on the inside of the door, so if there is a hijack in progress in the cabin, the door can be locked in such a way that none of the crew outside can be coerced into opening it.
Whether that's a good idea depends on which you think is more likely: a terrorist trying to force cabin crew to give them access to the cockpit, or one of the pilots going suicidal and locking everyone else out. |

We will probably find out about the co-pilots life situation in the coming days. Sadly it was the same situation on flight MH370.

He's a coward because flying a plane into the side of a mountain at 570 mph to die instantly is a real cowards way out. He didn't even have the guts to tie a noose around his neck, stick a blade in his wrist or throw himself off a bridge or in front of a train. Because they would need at least some conviction and pain. No, he sat in a comfy chair and obliterated himself instantly. |

I read this comment.
"Who gives a crap about the ******* co-pilot. TELL me the name of the hero pilot who tried until his dying breath to get back into the cockpit" |

An article on sky news about the captian trying to get into the flight deck and yet I cannot see his name.
