I'd be pretty certain it's not true. I refer to this each time someone get "banned from flying the England flag in case it offends someone", during the 2010 World Cup I lived in the very multicultural Leicester and the England flag was everywhere you looked.

We've moved on in the last 5 years.

No we've still got the "poor persecuted Englander in his own country" complex to this day.

With good reason...

That's debatable. If your biggest worry is not being able to fly your flag (which by the way I agree you should do so with pride) then life isn't going to be too difficult.

Really? I lived there for 4 years, my OH and 2 of her kids are English, my father was before he passed away and my son is half English. You run along and have fun making that one stick.

and if you read the link you would see that the rule applied to all flags not just England flags .Whatever people think of the rule (I think it is pretty petty) it applied to everyone not just 'poor persecuted Englanders' ,also a private housing association can make whatever rules they like

OK.
I'll be sure to make it round and blunt so the pain is minimal when you stick it up there :)

You should be able to support and display that support for any side in any sporting event wherever you are.

If you happen to be German living in London during a sporting event you should be able to safely fly the German flag and celebrate the likely beating of England in that event should the two teams meet.

If Rugby fans can safely mix up so should any other sporting event. It's only a game after all.

Well I would disagree with that, in Glasgow anyway. Certainly would never fly a Celtic or Rangers flag in an area predominantly filled with opposing fans, that would be totally idiotic.

That goes deeper than just sport but heavy historical religious reasons.

I think you have a point there as it's a known serious rivalry and you'd have good reason to expect violence to ensue. But a national flag in that nation, I see no problems with it.

It goes further than that though, as most/many rangers fans would rather display the Union flag rather than the Scottish Saltire that Celtic fans are likely to display. Celtic fans would also display the Irish Tricolour flag.

Even that can cause trouble. Although Scotland is part of the union the fans would rather not see the flag. Due to the religious and historical problems. Also that goes for Northen Ireland too.

Rangers do play in red, white and blue mostly.

That's more or less what I mean, if there were legitimate and proven reasons for why a flag should not be flown (such as those examples) I'd agree with it.
