This is a non story, individuals can donate to who they like ,the other alternative for those against people donating to political parties is to stop it altogether and rely on funding from general taxation ,anyone fancy that ?

Well they seem to claim for just about everything else on expenses.

Well, if you don't want the endless arguments that the Tories are in the pockets of fat cats and Labour the pockets of the Unions, there is one solution: Public funding for political parties.

That way there can be no pandering for donations, no accusations of foul play, or sleaze etc, and would mean people can be confident that their elected lawmakers are actually working for them, not whoever donated the most to their party.

Of course, such an idea is never going to fly, because who wants a fair political system? Far easier to use a bad one to point the finger at whoever you don't vote for than to actually fix it.

When the energy prices start going through the roof again as they surely will, would the Tory party mothers who will probably be in office again rein-in the energy companies who donated to their party.

... and then there was this guy whose ID, for some odd reason, it seems Labour weren't too keen to reveal...

Quote:

Labour has received a huge donation from a multimillion-pound hedge fund manager whose identity the party tried to keep secret, The Independent can reveal. Martin Taylor has given Labour nearly £600,000 since 2012, making him the party’s fourth-largest donor, and has had at least one meeting with the Labour leader, Ed Miliband.

And now we have a LibDem peer resigning over alleged dodgy donations:

A Liberal Democrat peer has resigned from his party's group in the House of Lords following allegations expected to be made in a Channel 4 investigation.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Dispatches will allege "a £10,000 donation was paid by the stepfather of an undercover businessman which would be against the rules on donations."

Lord Strasburger of Langridge has denied doing anything wrong.

If its meant to be illegal why weren't people prosecuted over donations(£600,000+) made by David Abrahams via third parties? Apparently trade union Unite is paying the membership fees for some people to be members of the Labour party and therefore eligible to vote for prospective MPs. Wouldn't that also be 3rd party donations?
