When I was security-vetted in the RAF they interviewed people I had no personal contact with, not just about me, but about themselves too! Just because they went to the same pub, or used the same Post Office, had some contact with my parents at some point. It seemed very intrusive, but the method was the method and nothing could be said against it.

Yes it's clear that there are circumstances in which such vetting is probably essential and understandable.
However expecting teachers to know the criminal background of their chosen partners is expecting rather a lot and is a) hardly likely to encourage staff recruitment and retention within the profession and/or b) going to result in a lot of relationship breakups. |
