yeah, the sad thing is that after all this hype and excitement most of us are probably looking at mid-next year before we see the upgrade. They haven't even announced it yet and when they do they'll make it sound like the release is imminent but it will only be a few selected areas around summer time. They'll release a rollout plan making it look like most areas will be done just before or just after xmas and then we'll all be hit with delays and push backs it will end up being june-september 2016. I am not being pessimistic, it is just the way it always has been. I am very excited about the prospect of having 20/15 or 30/20 but if even VM announce it tomorrow, it is still a long way off.

I can honestly say I'm not that excited about another downstream upgrade. 150 or 300 for me is really the difference of a few seconds most of the time. I can't remember the last time I had to wait more than 10mins for something to download right now. When I have, it's usually because the server I'm downloading from is congested, so doubling my speed isn't going to make a huge amount of difference.

I'll be more excited about increased upload speeds. Double that and I'll jizz my knickers.

50/100/300? Seems legit.

I'd be happy with 50 right now, only way I can get more than 12Mbps is on 4G.

I think I'd also be a lot happier if VM kept ahead of the curve with localised congestion issues too.. there do seem to be more than usual creeping through now, if the community forum is anything to go by.

There is more of this generally - I'm on my second BT Wholesale congestion issue in 9 months, TalkTalk are having some capacity issues and even Hyperoptic are struggling a bit.

You can, however, feel happier. The same upgrades that will allow 300Mb will also relieve the congestion which is part of the reason why you might have seen an uptick in the complaints, these upgrades aren't superquick in some areas.

Bandwidth usage is growing 50-60% per year, sometimes capacity falls behind especially on cable networks where adding it can be tricky. Of course the ideal is to have no capacity issues at all but it's running at perhaps 2-3% of customers having issues, no more, these just happen to be pretty vocal and with the community forum being there their issues get a wider audience.

Unfortunately, it seems to be part of being human that we are less likely to mention anything about any service we get if the service is what we are expecting and paying for, but are more likely to complain (on any medium) when the service falls short of our expectations.

Look at any forums. How many people do you see coming online and just saying they are getting a service they are happy with. The number is a fraction of the number of people that post complaining about their service, even though the number of customers complaining may actually be a fraction of the number who are happy with their service.

One of the most fundamental mantras of the service business... One unhappy customer will tell ten times as many people as a happy one.

Bet you as soon as people find out about it, if there area needs upgrades first they will still complain to disconnects, who will then bump them up to the new speed with no concern about the impact on other users in that area. :mad:

Haha. Well given it'll need new CPE they may struggle with that a bit :)

The simple solution is to leave absolutely no option for them to bump people up without the extra channels and higher modulations in place. No 'go ahead' from capacity planning no upgrades in that area - full stop. This is doable on ICOMS.

The issue before was selling the stuff to new customers before uplifts had been completed. Just not doing that this time around will help a ton.

An area that hasn't had the necessary upgrades would be laid to waste by one newsgroup monkey who had been prematurely upgraded.

The capacity upgrades should be rolled out quite rapidly this year both as preparation for future tiers and to relieve congestion, with any release of new tiers delayed as needed if the extra capacity gets eaten or traffic rises faster than expected.
