like harry, i do respect your views/time on this and other matters and the fact you have been consistent in your stance, my only further question (if I may) is why spring this year will make a difference than lets say spring of last year?

And there lies i think the next battle for VM, BT acquiring european football and VM being able to still offer it for free for XL customers

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions old boy, but they don't really seem to do anything other than regurgitate your previous thoughts, in different wording. I appreciate you taking the time to answer them though. Thank you. I will drop the subject now though as I think you are a little deluded if you still think reported talks from 18 months ago will the only reason of potentially getting SA. I welcome your reply though. I hope it comes for those who want it, but I think the free BT Sport deal scuppered any chance of it arriving. VM'S TV package with BT sport and Atlantic would, in my eyes, blow Sky's offering out of the water. Good luck, I will be pleased for you if SA arrives and someone comes out and says "it's taken 18 months of painful talks, but we finally got there."

Thanks for that, Harry.

I know that I have said all this before, but you appeared to think that I was ignoring your questions, so regurgitation it was! ;)

You might be right about BT scuppering the whole deal, but the thing is, we have not heard from the media about that one way or the other, so there is still a chance that the original talks have actually come to something. And yes, I do not think it would be unusual for those talks to take 18 months.

Just to be clear to everyone - don't get the idea that I am saying SA is coming at this time. I am just saying that previous media reports have led me to a particular point of view and I think it could be coming imminently.

But I have no confirmation that this is so, and of course I could be wrong. As could all of us on this subject! :)

The reason is the Now TV box and Sky wishing to give that a good chance to pick up all those VM and other customers who wanted to pay extra to receive Sky Atlantic, and also the Sky Bravo addition to the mix would have delayed these talks.

Sky Atlantic has to come to VM at some point, surely. Sky knows they will gain extra money in revenue from this.

I like the idea of Sky and VM having negotiated a deal already, but VM have to wait to Sky with NOW TV to gain as many customers as they can, a bit like the BT Sport deal.

It will certainly make 2015 a year to celebrate for VM if they have managed to secure SA and add it to their TV line-up. As someone already stated, this would certainly push their offerings in the same league, maybe even higher than Sky's :-)

Yes, only time will tell!

I forgot to mention that Sky are strengthening their ties with HBO, working jointly with them on new material. That will cost a pretty nice some of money, so I would have thought that Sky would have wanted to recoup some of that as well.

Sky must be having to look carefully at its position with all the financial pressures now building up, particularly with sports, and a deal with Virgin Media would make BT appear to be a less attractive option to potential and existing customers.

The one thing I would say Sky has above Virgin Media and BT, is that you can have a dish wherever you are in the country. VM fibre customers are definitely limited to cabled areas.

So thinking way outside of the box, VM may agree not to cable some areas too....not sure if that has been thought of before. All for the sake of agreeing a price on one channel and not securing new customers I think that is too way out of the box for VM to agree lol

Mild rumour source has told me when HBOGO uk launches it will be available as included in your subscription for Sky customers but will be chargeable to others at around £9.99p/m there will be a hbogo app on the relevant services such as tivo, youview etc.
I say mild rumour as this source has never contacted me before so chances are it's a load of codswallop.

Cannot believe it is 2015 already (or just shy anyway).

Does anyone else think that a channel could be launching in February/March as a reason for the prise increase?

It is indeed a load of codswallop.

Might not be either HBO have already said they're launching hbogo as a stand alone subscription.
I doubt uk will get it though but you never know, won't be anytime soon though.

Doubt very much if VM would agree not to cable certain areas to please Sky!

However, with the growth of IPTV and fast BB over telephone lines (like the BT innovation) i'm surprised that VM National was scrapped.

I'd have thought that this could have been a way for VM to enlarge their footprint without the huge capital outlay of digging up the roads.

There's a world box type red channel available on freeview as well, seems very similar to the VM one but i haven't got my box set up permanately yet to check.

It only applies to first run programmes apparently, Dave.

I think this is the way Virgin wants to go, with more emphasis on apps for streaming material similar to Netflix.

If the SA talks have come to nought, this is the only way we are going to get to see HBO and other SA content on our TiVo boxes.
