Someone from VM told me now that Liberty Global have bought it they will be expanding the network as my sister lives 1 min away from a cabled area.

If it's anything like the old Jerrold box I used to have it would still provide excellent central heating and can double as a frying pan. I do remember somebody techy turning up one day and confiscating it for health and safety reasons, I've been freezing ever since, dam him...

I remember having a box like that. When my parents left Telewest for SKY back in 1999 they didn't get me multiroom :( I do however remember being pleasantly surprised when putting the Telewest cable directly into my TV. I'm sure I was able to get the 5 main free to air channels along with SKY 1 and 4 other random pay channels totally free.

Yep, our Jerrold box used to run as hot as hades. Then one day the display went out and the burning smells started.

My TV had an all band tuner and there were quite a few channels transmitted without any encryption*, our box had a pass through mounted on the back for the FM tuner and I had a splitter this connected to the TV antenna input

*Mainly inverted video.
