I tried starting up and using Chrome rather than IE the other day but the same thing happened.

Re: Laptop locking up after booting up.

Went straight into an image editing programme after starting up this morning and once again the laptop snarled up about 2 mins into things. It cleared after about another couple of mins as if nothing had happened. I cancelled a number of startup programmes yesterday but this has obviously made no difference.

Can someone tell me exactly where to look in event viewer so I can see what went on shortly after I booted her up? Cheers.

Another thing to consider is perhaps it needs a physical clean to keep it cool?

You could try opening task manager and checking out to see what resources get spiked by what as it happens (under processes)

The machine is very clean and the fan very rarely comes on.

Next time I start her up I'll try to remember to launch task manager and have a peek.

Nothing else appears to be going on so I'm not desperate to get it fixed asap but it is annoying.

Cheers guys.

As above, sounds like a hard drive issue (that or an initialization hang - I've got one of those on my system right now due to Windows' crappy network file stack)
