Pirelli to remain as tyre manufacturer until end of 2016.

Quote:

Pirelli will continue as Formula One racing’s official tyre supplier for three more years, it was announced on Thursday.

The Italian company, whose new supply deal runs from 2014 until the end of 2016, have also collaborated with Formula One racing’s governing body, the FIA, and the teams to implement changes to the sporting regulations regarding the testing of tyres.

From the start of 2014 one of the 12 days of official pre-season testing will be dedicated exclusively to wet tyre testing. Furthermore, each team must dedicate one of their eight days of in-season testing exclusively to the testing of tyres. This means that during each of the eight days of in-season testing, at least one team - and up to a maximum of two - will be concentrating on tyre testing along with Pirelli’s engineers.

As was previously the case, Pirelli will continue to determine the specification of the tyres and to manage all aspects of their development, in close consultation with the FIA and the teams.

The first pre-season test of 2014, a four-day session in Jerez, Spain, gets underway on January 28. So far, McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, Williams and Caterham have confirmed their attendance at the test. Lotus are the only team to have announced that they will not be present with their new car.

Hopefully, they have improved the safety this season.

Hopefully F1 can move freely without his interference.

It won't until they rid themselves of rubbish drivers.

As for Ecclestone, well we all know he's still banging out the orders so stepping down was just a distancing move to save damage to the F1 brand.

Agreed on the Ecclestone thing, but don't think it's the drivers, more the car & tactics/strategy...

Re: Formula 1 2014 Season

All drivers have been confirmed now for the new season. Literally a week before first testing begins in Jerez, Caterham have announced the 2 drivers who will drive their car.

Japanese veteran driver Kamui Kobayashi will be joined by Swedish novice Marcus Ericsson. Kobayashi returns to the sport after taking a year out last season, in which he drove sports cars for Ferrari. He made his debut in 2009, driving for Toyota before moving to Sauber for 3 seasons. The last of which, 2012, saw his first and only podium finish in F1 at the Japanese GP. He has a career points total of 125.

Ericsson, who is 23, makes the step up from GP2, after spending 4 seaons in the junior category. He has driven a F1 car before, in 2009 when he tested for Brawn GP, after he won the Japanese F3 crown. He becomes the first Swede since Stefan Johansson in 1991 to race in F1.

In other news, Valtteri Bottas announced on Twitter that for the first 2 days of the test in Jerez, he will be testing the new car before handing over the car to new team mate Felipe Massa. Williams also revealed that they will be running a heritage blue livery at Jerez.

Force India first to reveal picture of their car for the 2014 season.

Quote:

Force India have become the first team to release a picture of their new car, giving fans an initial chance to see how 2014’s radical regulation changes have shaped the look of Formula One cars.

The most obvious differences between the new Mercedes-powered VJM07 and last year’s VJM06 are the mandatory lower nose and the striking new black, orange and green livery. However, the Silverstone-based team's technical director Andrew Green is quick to emphasise just how different the new car is compared to its predecessor.

“Almost every single part is a new design, from the front wing right back to the diffuser,” he said. “The genetics of the VJM07 still lie in the 2013 car, but we've had to achieve the same results in a slightly different way.”

Team principal Vijay Malya hailed the ‘aggressive’ look of his team’s 2014 challenger.

“The VJM07 looks stunning and the new livery reflects the way Sahara Force India is evolving,” he said. “I’ve always believed our cars have been the most eye-catching, but adding black as a main colour gives us a fierce new look.

“The new rules have presented us with a huge challenge, but I’m very proud of the approach we have taken and the direction of the technical team. It will be fascinating to see how different teams have interpreted the rules and at this stage it’s impossible to predict who has done the best job.”

Force India will officially present the VJM07 at next week’s first pre-season test in Jerez, Spain, where it will be put through its paces by the team's all-new driver line-up of Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez.
