I have a V+ box in the spare room (and Tivo in lounge), so when mine broke, it was replaced with a new V+ rather than a refurbished one.

As others have said, it might be an idea to call and discuss - I would imagine Virgin would want everyone on Tivo eventually to make updating easier

I've decided to keep a diary of the cock ups during recording and any pixilation incidents and see if I can get some sort of replacement.
