Re: Virgin Media to start charging for Security
I think it's a good deal. You get F-Secure Safe for £25 a year for up to 5 devices with VM if you pay the £25 in one go, otherwise it's £7.50 per quarter, but if you buy direct from F-Secure it would cost you £79.99.
Offering a re-skinned AV product for free is OK, but it rarely got updated and didn't support Windows 8. This offers some of the best protection you can get at a decent price. If you don't want to pay, you can use MSE, Windows Defender, AVG, Avast, Avira or whatever for free. |
Re: Virgin Media to start charging for Security
The "free" service that they've now got rid of wasn't worth a dime. Virgin Media Security was truly awful, worse than even Norton or Mcaffee (or at least just as bad). So yeah, while this might be a "loss" of a service, you're not really loosing out on anything but GAINING a year's free F-secure, which is actually worth something.
There's just no pleasing some people. |
Re: Virgin Media to start charging for Security
no matter how you look at it if virgin are stopping something thats free and starting to charge for it...its another price increase.
Surly their "free" service IS worth something as its better than nothing. Did they not mention at the very start that their security package come FREE with every broadband deal?? no matter how you look at it....its another £30 per year on top of your bill after the initial 1st year. i deleted avast a while ago in favour of virgin security....looks like i will be going back again!! |

Either way, as stated, VMS was terrible anyway. A rubbish service is no better than no service. |

Dont sweep everyone with the same brush, just because some people did not like VMS...does not mean that everyone hated it - i have always got on well with it. But once its finished....i will go back to avast which equally served me well prior to installing virgin security |

And I never said I hated VMS, I said it was terrible - which it was. |
Re: Virgin Media to start charging for Security
Avast has done me well for many years but I would say NOD32 is still the best.

Re: Virgin Media to start charging for Security
their new security is very slow. a friend has it on their Pentium I5 8GB Ram and when scanning it runs like a dog.

Re: Virgin Media to start charging for Security
A pentium i5.
How do you get F-secure anyway? is the free year for upgrading or new customers? |

Re: Virgin Media to start charging for Security
I use Microsoft Security Essentials with SpyHunter.

Re: Virgin Media to start charging for Security
So why have I got this marketing email offering it free for 12 months? Could it be because I got hit by STM the last couple of nights?
