However that's not the same as churn I don't think as it could be partial disconnections.

This is in the summary:

Share price up 5 dollars off the back of the results so happy days for you guys in that share save scheme you have.

Looks like craig was right then - 30k 9 month student contracts end in Q2 and 30k new ones start in Q3.

It's the year on year figures that count.

Not sure about that

The 30,000 RGUs as defined by LGI will be across all products i.e. TV, Telco and cable BBI. Whereas the 30,000 additions in these results are just for BBI

Because imo VM are offering me the most cost effective solution. Note I don't say the best or fastest connection but the most cost effective. Not having to pay a minimum of £10pm for the last mile delivery makes a difference.

I think craig hit the nail on the head with a major source of those new customers. It would be interesting to know what the numbers were at this time last year rather than those from the previous quarter to see the year on year change.

You count as a new customer as is new contract?

They have 127100 more broadband customers than 12 months ago

Thanks for clarifying that. I must say that I'm surprised as I would have expected numbers to either be stable or falling with the FTTC rollout.

This will probably happen when the rollout is complete enough for the FTTC providers to start 'willy waving' the advantages the technology brings

In their last results the CEO stated that in areas where FTTC was built in areas where VM operate, there had been no impact on VM at all, despite substantial advertising.

Maybe its the way things are bundled as VM have nearly 70% of customers on triple play compared to 30 something % with Sky and a very low figure for BT.

If BT continue to grow their TV offering I reckon that could change things though.

Picking up on the FTTC rollout, the attraction of FTTC lies in two factors that I can think of:

1. ADSL users a long way from the exchange

2. Disaffected VM cable users.

Could it be deduced that VM not falling with FTTC rollout means that VM isn't as bad across the country as some say it is?

Re: Virgin Media adds 30,000 cable customers in last quarter

Well I stayed with VM rather than switch to FTTC a year ago because the FTTC install was a no-show and the new date given was past my VM cancellation date. This year I again stopped but that was because VM offered me a massive bribe discount to stay with them.

I'm pretty sure you've hit the nail on the head there, Seph. I've been saying it for ages now, Virgin isn't perfect but they've come a long, long way in the last 12 months or so (and yes, they've still got some ways to go). The cynical side of me thinks they didn't really have much choice with the FTTC rollout but that just goes to show how big a difference a little competition can make.

BT practically gave up on their BT Vision product when they did the deal with VM.

Yo can get BT sport now on Sky and VM, there is no driver for a customer to sign up to BT vision.
