The Welsh assembly (spit) is demanding a doubling of their numbers as they "work too hard". That will mean more seats on the gravy train.

There are a few "Underground" sites that discuss & predict civil war. I`m in total agreement, but its late in the day now for action.

There will never be a revolution. The army would never back it no other nation would ever support it plus the brits never really protest well either

Do it in the week when the army is at their other jobs then. People can only be pushed so far, I know for a fact if there are more riots I won't be working those nights no matter how much I'm offered.

:D

Million Mask March is the thing for Tuesday around the world and is being covered by the RT news channel. Doubt it will raise a blip on the other channels but you never know. The occupy movements started out small but over time got enough press and got more thinking about the 99% vs 1% figure. Maybe the anonymous/Vendetta masks will grow in numbers and be a spark for more action to change.

Top Banana, Yes, but it still does not make sense.

If MPs can claim expenses for everything, then WHY pay them wages. Wasn't it last year that an MP claimed so much money on expenses to watch a porn channel.

your making stuff up again Arthur ,MP's don't claim expenses for everything and they certainly don't get expenses for watching porn .Go here to see exactly what they do get

They have been known to try, however, as former Labour Home Secretary Jacqui Smith knows only too well.

Thanks to Arthur for giving me the opportunity to remind everyone... :D

yep, there are still some that try to get away with it but thankfully a more transparent system means the voters can check exactly what they are claiming for ,it should also be said that claiming for something doesn't mean they will get it

Yes, it'd be interesting to know that they'd have done had the claim gone through successfully and Ms Smith has subsequently discovered the mistake.

Personally, I have no problem with expenses. If they are needed. The trouble is, most of the expenses claims we have seen from MPs are arguably not needed.

Why should we be paying one MP to heat his estate? Why should we be subsidising their meals so heavily? Why should we be helping them with their rent/mortgages?

Yes, MPs are sometimes required to work late. Fair enough. So are Doctors. So are Nurses. Yet, they don't get heavily subsidised second homes. They don't get heavily subsidised quality meals. They (in my experience) get the same sort of food you get at BHS for slightly more than you pay at BHS.

I believe that the government has been actively encouraging trusts to sell off the on-site accommodation that used to be available to Nurses, doctors and (in some cases) other hospital staff.

Yet, in the event of a major accident or emergency, these people would be expected to be available and in work within a few minutes. Everyone from the cleaning, maintenance and catering staff through to the medical and surgical staff can be called in with little notice. I know people don't think about the cleaning, maintenance and catering staff, but even in a major emergency, the hospital needs to be kept clean, the equipment may need repair and the staff and patients need feeding.

MPs seem to believe they need second homes more than the aforementioned hospital staff, yet how many times does Parliament sit in the evening or at night?

Take my local MP. She claimed for a second home near parliament. Why? Is her constituency hundreds of miles from Parliament. No. It's 15 miles. Should she have ever been required to stay late for a session, she could have been driven back to the constituency in less than 40 minutes. I know, I've done the opposite journey on many an occasion.

Wish I got the expenses they do. Unfortunately, working in the public sector, all I get is either 30p a mile, or my fare by the cheapest route (this is checked) paid and some money toward one meal. This is IF I am called to work off campus for whatever reason. If I am working on campus (even if it's after hours) I am expected to do it as part of my job, even if it's out of hours.

Agree with all of that it is shameful specially in light of the 11% increase in wages they are getting as well

This is the solution, build/obtain a hotel near Parliament, and every MP is given a room, and they are not paid for a 2nd home.

The hotel would include a restaurant(s) and rooms for each of the main parties to have private meetings, this would save us a shed load of cash.
