The Think Bike campaign is more about motorbikes. They do need licences and the campaign works for them too. However the main danger for motorcyclists is someone pulling out in front of them or turning into them. In these situations it's more sensible to target the driver to look into their blind spot as a motorbike is harder to spot than a car and they tend to have the inside line when turning right so can't turn into anyone.

That's true but how many bikers kill themselves every year due to speeding and dangerous riding and when was the last time you saw a high profile campaign highlight that? Drivers are rightly being warned to look out for bikers or all types yet where are the messages aimed at them to try to modify their behaviour and the risk they pose to other road users?
I think it's about time the authorities took the problem of irresponsible bikers more seriously and acted accordingly and if we can hope to educate car drivers why can't we hope to educate those on bikes? Surely attacking the problem from both ends would yield better results. |
