i dont think i would be covered by that as i bought the car second hand?

The 7 year warranty is transferrable.

I don't know what's required to transfer the warranty but if you haven't complied with any relevant terms or Kia's servicing requirements then it may now be void anyway. If I were you I'd get onto my Kia dealer and find out - it may save you a lot of money.

No the Starter Motors are usually heavier duty to account for any additional wear & tear that start/stop causes. This should be covered on Kia's under the excellent warranties they have! Thanks for your answer. Is the starter motor the only component on which additional wear and tear is placed by start/stop technology? For example, I was always under the impression that a lot of engine wear takes place when starting a car but possibly modern oils etc. have overcome that issue.

I'd guess the battery gets a bit more hammered too.

No engine wear is negligible these days compared to cars of the 80's/90's - actually some manufacturers suggest if you are parked in traffic longer than 10 seconds its beneficial to switch off your engine... I know that VW suggest this in their manuals.

I do this on my Audi A6 and its not particularly new (2003) and I've never had any issues so far with undue wear - I do maintain my car well - regardless of cost though so maybe a well maintained car has something to do with it.

I'm not a mechanic - just a car geek :)

Might get a LITTLE more hammer - but I wouldn't think it would be noticable. Batteries have a general life of about 7-10 years so its worth replacing it after that anyway as car battery tech improves :)
