Whats situation on ex pats and there partners and relations. Its known some come back to be treated by NHS.

They also got be very careful how this implemented not sure I would include brits who living in UK who have married foreign partner.

It would be so wrong that partner could not get health. Push millions brits needing go private insurance healthcare for there partner.

I'll believe it when it happens. The thing is the NHS has never really been geared towards accepting payments even from those who want and expect to pay such as Americans who've been treated in hospital here whilst on holiday for example. In other parts of Europe it's for more usual to have to pay so the mechanisms for so doing are well established.

So far as the NHS being abused, it's been going on for years and it'll continue.

No i want it balanced, if i have to pay in Cyprus then why not that they pay here. simple really when you look at it.

But it is balanced in the sense that they have to pay in Cyprus as well, so it is the same rule. It's just that it's one rule here and another one there. Us and Them doesn't come into it.

What immigrants are we talking about here anyway ,EU immigrants or those from outside the EU ,not made clear in the links

The problem is that there are different health services in different countries ,maybe the EEA cards should provide the same service from the tourists country not as if they where a citizen of this country

That would be unworkable, as the set of rules that local practitioners need to apply would suddenly multiply.

True ,it was just a thought and thinking about it not a very good one;)

been having a dig about and it does turn out that the NHS does (or is supposed to)charge for some treatments ,accidents and emergencies are always free but some treatments may incur a cost but as mentioned the NHS is not geared up to take payments from jonny foreigner walking into a hospital with a bout of severe drunkeness ,at least i've never noticed a "pay here" kiosk at any of the hospitals i have ever been to

Presumably the EEA card allows the NHS to claim the money back from the respective health service.

To be honest, I doubt this would be any different anywhere else. What hospital in a developed country is going to turn someone away when lives are at risk?

As a disabled Bratish citizen with multiple conditions so unlikely to be able to ever return to work I have very recently been denied the ability to consider treatment that may have improved whats left of my quality of life, treatment that was available to me 6 years ago and as far as I am aware is still being administered today. The reason given by this specialist team was due to cuts in our great No Hope Service.
