I was going to bring out "cheesy Mohammed wotsits" and "bacon flavoured Allah Nik Naks" but I don't think I'll bother now.

Umm, no, requested by a part of their customer base that Pret obviously decided they didn't want to offend.

I'm not sure what bullying is supposed to have gone on here. Did they threaten the CEO with the comfy chair? Or was it the soft cushions?

This is the most pathetic story that l have ever heard, why don't people grow up, no wonder there is this aggro over Catholics and Protestants and all that stuff.

My next door neighbour has union jack outside his house, l live next door to Somalians, but we have model pigs in the gardens and my wife is a catholic and l am a christian, and all get on great - l am not offended by anything and we live in a free world - so why don't people just grow up.

Living in a free world includes the right to dislike something and to ask someone to stop doing it. Which, so far as I can see, is all that has happened here. Pret could have said no; in the event they said yes. Which was their freely-made decision. End of.

That's like saying we shouldn't debate my daughters choice of boyfriend because she chose him.

I'd prefer she had a girlfriend mind, but hey.

a) Catholics are Christians too, Arthur.

b)"model pigs in the garden"?

c) "I am not offended by anything" - really? ;)

No, "end of" is like saying the facts are simple, not "we shouldn't debate".

Catholics made a request. Pret chose to do as asked. End of. Or choose any one of "simples", "it's not rocket science" or "move along people, there's nothing to see here."

That's alright then. you had us all worried there that you might come along putting your opinion and end of at the end of everything :)

Hugh, why do you have to make an issue of something. I am Cof E, not a catholic, also pigs are in the garden, and were their before our neighbours moved in.

I am not offending by religion, race etc, l believe that freedom of speech is something that should be cherished, but what annoys me is when we have problems resulting from what other people see as offensive.

Years ago we had as marmalade with a famous doll on it, this was removed due to organisations claiming it was offensive.
Then we have people whinging about certain colours or Xmas trees, claiming its offensive to there religion, if people want to live in this country, then they should live by our rules and NOT say they want it to be removed.

My neighbour who comes from Somalia, we get on well with each other and he once said to me ' we should all live in peace together' and that is exactly what we do.

Arthur, my apologies if I wasn't clear.

Catholics are Christians too - your statement, by saying you were a Christian and your wife was RC, appeared to infer she wasn't a Christian...

Regarding the model pigs - no religious slur was intended or any point about your neighbours, it was just that I have never heard of anyone having model pigs in their garden (or anywhere else...).

Window sill is a common place for them.
