No extra subscription to Sky would be required and the TV Licence would still be payable.

Of course, all this is purely academic as Sky would never allow it to get to the stage where they left the platform. That's why i'm surprised this hasn't been tried before.

The very existence of the BBC channels on Sky is enough remuneration in itself. In some countries, PSB channels charge the platform owners for inclusion on their platform!

Which astra satellite? to recieve from astra 1 it will mean moving the dish and losing all the other sky channels

And why should I pay towards you solving that problem. I have to pay for a freeview aerial if I want to see some channels as Virgin do/did not carry them . Come on if your supplier won`t offer them to you, sorry but my feeling is tough luck . Sky do not pay others to carry their channels - whats good for the goose. Come BBC call their buff. Stop pay now:)

As I read it & if I misunderstood you sorry. You need to mess around with your dish if Sky stop. Ergo you need two dishes or Freeview to get BBC channels.
At the moment the "tax" payer is handing money to Sky to provide "you" with BBC channels. Your point as I took it was why should you ? mine is why should I :D

Whatever broadcast medium is used, there is a cost somewhere. Even providing content via iPlayer over the internet has a cost. Part or all of that will be an internal cost, but it's still a cost. Freeview and Freesat cost the BBC, so why shouldn't Sky receive money for providing the service, unless people are getting hung up about Rupert Murdoch.

Yes you completely misunderstood .

The bbc are paying sky for a service ,the same as they pay for electric, gas and water ,or do you propose they get that free as well because the BBC pay for gas electric and water out of tax payers money as well .

I was responding to Richards post that said the BBC channels would be available through the 'add channels ' from the Astra satellite i was simply asking what Astra ,1 or 2, as most if not all the other european free channels are only available on Astra 1 which requires a dish move to recieve them as far as i know

So you'll be quite happy if BSkyB dropped all the Beebs channels then if they're not paid to carry them?

VM don't charge the BBC so it's not a problem and when I turn to Freeview when I retire it won't be a problem either as I'll stick with the basic package.

what about the millions bbc make for sky?

what happens if someone buys a tv to watch sky sports and nothing else, they are forced to pay for the bbc.
