Virgin Media won't do 200 Meg until late 2015

Re: Upload increases 10% ?

l dont believe it dude, they did the trials for it aaaaaaaaaaaages ago (about 2 years) and have since done 400mbit trials. I am expecting them to announce it early next year, finish up the speed doubling over summer and rollout it out to a couple of areas just before xmas so they can say it is being released in 2013.

Re: Upload increases 10% ?

Well seeing as BT bring 330Mb/s into the game in just over a months time, VM will have to do something to keep up

Re: Upload increases 10% ?

exactly, and to be honest, even doing a surprise announcement saying they are going to skip 120mbits and bang all customers straight up to 200mbits isnt going to cut it because it is till nearly half the speed

Except that is only going to be available via the FTTP on Demand stuff, not via normal Infinity, and it'll be interesting to see the pricing/usage allowance structure of the final product

Well its being run on exactly the same network, there will be no 4 year network upgrade plan, just an openreach installer with a reel of fibre cable who will hook you up and have you running straight out the box

Re: Upload increases 10% ?

Too far from where? Is FTTC available in your area yet?

Remember that FTTP On Demand install pricing isn't announced yet but is based on a survey and build cost (rather than fixed fee like a standard copper pair) so if you're a fair distance from the FTTC cabinet then the install cost is likely to be on the high side...

*Plus the survey, possible roadworks etc, etc... Estimated install timescale (for the trial, according to Plusnet) - 3 months.

Got a link? I hardly see that as a feasible solution

http://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home...mand/fttpod.do

http://community.plus.net/fibre-to-t...on-demand-faq/

How do you expect the install to happen? If you're fed from a drop wire then the route from the FTTC cabinet to the first pole may need to be excavated. If you're fed from a buried cable then there may be collapsed ducts to contend with...

It's not unlike a VM cable install, but when areas were cabled originally for TV services the necessary infrastructure was put in the ground to support adding customers when a subscriber joined. Openreach's infrastructure, being significantly older in many cases, will not be quite as flexible.

It will be very interesting to watch the product develop from trial to full release.
