You probably should.

I am not, I am merely correcting your incorrect summations

I wasn't aware that I'd many any?

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/summation

If you genuinely believe that quoting figures incorrectly, especially by changing bits to bytes without any indication other than an order of magnitude change, expecting readers to 'infer' when they wouldn't need to if you were clear and unambiguous and that by getting it deliberately wrong you are 'helping', then so be it.

Personally I find it makes you appear very patronising and innacurate but clearly I'm in the minority.

If you posted using correct units, especially acknowledging the difference between bits and bytes (pretty fundamental eh?) and then addressed any 'confusion' that results (hint - I don't think there is any) then everyone learns from it rather than perpetuating the myth that 'accuracy doesn't matter as everyone will understand anyway'.

Neither you or qasdfghjklkjgfdsaq have actually argued that I'm wrong by the way, just that you accept that you're wrong but people won't care. A pretty strange state of affairs I think you'd agree?

Still, my position is clear and so is yours so there's nothing to be gained by carrying this discussion on any further.

<-----The topic is a long way back over there... :)

Uhh yeah but everyone *does* understand

Uhh yes I have. You're just as wrong because you're just as "technically incorrect", as much as you like to deny it.

Since you only started this "discussion" to nit pick pointlessly...

The PC Optimizer I found does not work for my Windows 7 - the driver for ethernet PCI adapter is updated. In safe mode I get an average of 55 mb/s - in normal mode only get 18 to 25 mb/s!!!

May try windows recovery or file checker.

What Anti Virus are you running?

Re: Still on half the download speed

I am running the full trial version from AVG. There was one problem I have when doing a Ping test.net A firewall blocks the result.

Speedtest.net runs ok though!!!!

Could be the antivirus program as it uses its own firewall and disables Windows firewall.

Tried Avast but this seems to use to much memory.

I did have some chap from VM India do some setting changes (he could only get 35mbs in normal mode but 57mbs in safe mode and he did not know the reason why) and I assume that I am on 60mb settings... I think I will phone up and get this checked again.

I'd think if you are getting full speed in Safe mode it's a good bet it's AVG

Re: Still on half the download speed

1) firstly I am assuming you have checked to make sure you are provisioned for 60mbit.
2) you have got exactly the same problem I had this time last year. When I upgraded to 100mbit I had a shub forced on me. My vmng300 always gave me reliable speedtests on 50mbit and I expected the shub to do the same on 100mbit. Every speed tests I ran never came back above 36mbits and when I booted into safe mode it went up to 60mbits ish. For some reason my shub didnt like speed tests and if I did some proper downloading on newsgroups or multiple http downloads from somewhere like www.gamershell.com the cumulative speed was ~12MB/sec (happy ferret?) and I was maxing out my connection. I still moaned my ass off and got my vmng300 back :)

Long story short, you can't rely on speed tests. Download some files and you'll see you are getting your full speed.

I wouldn't use either and switch to Microsoft Security Essentials

Thanks to you all for the info I shall get the son-in-laws laptop and connect to the hub and test the speed on that just to eliminate that it is not my PC which stands for poor computer.

keep you informed

nice to see I am talking to a brick wall. Don't waste your time with the laptop, I tried the same thing and still had the same problem. Go to www.gamershell.com and download 7 or8 large files at the same time and you will see you get your full speed.

Re: Still on half the download speed

Brickwalls can be useful has they hold your house up...

What are the protocol settings for the super shrub (need one for 60mbs). Is there a list for the settings anywhere as I can check to see if it operating correctly.

General Maximus 14-11-2012 12:16

Re: Still on half the download speed

it doesnt matter now. The shub tells you what speed you are provisioned for (e.g. 60/3) so you know what speed you should be able to get. As you said you was only able to get 27mbits to start off with I thought that they might have told you you had been upgraded but hadn't pushed the new config through yet, which you would have seen in the shub as 30/3. As you said you can get 55mbits in safe mode it means you have been provisioned for the correct speed, the only thing you need to do now is prove that you can actually achieve it.
