Re: [update] Super-storm Sandy devastates US East Coast
With the election a week away....will they have to suspend the vote? Will Obama get the blame?

Re: [update] Super-storm Sandy devastates US East Coast
A sensationalist damp squid.
After shovelling out mud and less pleasant stuff from a friend's place in Devon, and seeing on her ground floor walls exactly how far the water rose into her house, I will be diplomatic and congratulate the State of New York for their forward-planning. Can I go home now? :D To balance my comments: a good friend in WPB Florida was in fear of his life a few years back. The year before 'Catrina' I think. He 'hunkered down' and still breates in and out :) My neice and partner sheltered in their hotel bathroom during Catrina's rage. They still breathe in and out too. |
Re: [update] Super-storm Sandy devastates US East Coast
"Damp squid"?
Not sure I agree, Caff, what with nearly 6 million homes being without power (half a million in Manhattan alone), a million people being ordered to evacuate their homes (375,000 in Lower Manhattan), 15 dead, and schools, businesses, and public transport being shut down in multiple states, 14,000 flights cancelled, and a large tanker being washed up on a street in Staten Island...... |

Re: [update] Super-storm Sandy devastates US East Coast
All that salty water's going to cause major problems of corrosion in any electrical and other metal equipment and plant exposed to it I'd have thought.

I suspect she meant "damp squib" ... as in a firework that won't fire. :D |
Re: [update] Super-storm Sandy devastates US East Coast
There is a squid involved?!
---------- Post added at 13:40 ---------- Previous post was at 13:35 ---------- Anyway damp squid makes sense, it's not important because the squid is already damp? You see? ---------- Post added at 13:42 ---------- Previous post was at 13:40 ---------- https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...KVY-_i2c#t=65s |
Any news on G-BOAD Concorde?
It was sat on a fixed barge uncovered on the coast, hoping its not been written off by the damage, the space shuttle got damaged and that was under cover. With those big delta wings things like kite and if it gets written off its in replaceable. Those 17 that died is a tragedy, but I don't understand how? Other than them being stupid surely? There was enough warning and even the government officials were tellin people get out staying would be stupid. Pictures coming in slowly now of the devastation and it doesn't look good at all the tunnels are all flooded And as said salt water won't do anything any good. |
Re: [update] Super-storm Sandy devastates US East Coast
My niece says her power supplier can't get them up and running until the 5th Nov.Seems like it might be quite serious.:erm:

:D
"squid" or "squib" - I've been getting the term wrong for years! Anyhow - it still doesn't seem to me to be of the rank of 'super-storm'. I'll await updates. |
Re: [update] Super-storm Sandy devastates US East Coast
Looks dreadful on the TV today. What a mess to clean up & restore back to normal.
