For the current tools, I believe it's down to load. It's one thing to have an agent check the system when someone asks. It's a different thing to rollout that access to millions of customers and have it work reliably.

There is a limit on what you can download each month. The first limit is your up to speed; the second limit, which is a cap, is the throttle.

Whilst the first limit is an obvious one, the second is a limitation imposed by VM that prevents you achieving the first. I'm not against that because it helps me. But the word "unlimted" has no semantic difference from "no limit".

I suspect that the OP may have bought his service when, in the midst of all the "Broadband Con" furore, VM were using the word "unlimited" (now "no limit").

Anyway, I think the OP has been thoroughly answered by now and for some it might just be grumble time!

No you don't. The answers have clearly been given.

There is no cap on any of VM's cable broadband services.

I'm sure there are plenty available on the internet :) I'm sure if VM supplied one for its customers it would be derided for... I don't know... fudging the figures or something :D So just use an ISP-independant product.

Re BIB. WRONG! If you cap something it stops dead completely. None of VM's cable broadband services stop completely dead; ever.

And that proves what? Apart from they've built their current tools to be customer facing and to cope with that level of access.

That's about it. Remember that it is a consumer, contended, service so the more you hog your connection may degrade the service for those who share your connection in the local green cabinet :)
