Tomato works on a few Asus routers. The toastman builds even do IP specific bandwidth monitoring.

I think it is terrible that you on the 100MB connection and they are moaning that you are using it! Its the same with my 10mb connection the other day i was download a linux distro and full speed and then a hour in it slowed down and i was punished! I don't hardly ever max out the connection there traffic management is done in the wrong way, im looking at moving to a BT fiber service once its enabled in my area that really are unlimited and don't cap you for maxing out your connection once in a while, Im paying for a 10mb connection and then when i try to use it i only get a quarter of the speed

Why not ring up Virgin on 150, ask to be upgraded to 20mb.

They used to disconnect people for downloading too much. Then they promised to stop and just send out advisory letters instead.

If you're scared of letters, put duct tape over your letterbox.

Yes but you'd have downloaded about twice as much. Just look at the published traffic management figures.

maybe PS3?

Xbox360 games can be downloaded of xbox live and xbox720 may even be download only no physical media (that would be fun for ISPs) can PS3 games be downloaded of PSN? as they are bluray format.

yes but in office now.. will send scripts and installation when I get home

you will need to enable either telnet or ssh to the router and use something like winscp to download the file to the router.

Dear Mr xxxxxx

Want a faster broadband service in the evening? Read on!

As you may know with Virgin Broadband we don't limit the amount that you can download. However, we've recently noticed an unusually large amount of data being transferred over your broadband connection (daily between mid-day and midnight) at our busiest network time and this may have resulted in your connection being managed under our traffic management policy (you can review this policy at virginmedia.com/traffic).

To help you better manage your broadband performance and to keep things running smoothly here are a few tips:

1. Move 'non time critical' usage to after midnight

Okay that might sound late, but actually it's easy to schedule downloading big files such as Movies until then. Check out our FAQs and details of how to schedule downloads on common software at virginmedia.com/peaktimefaq

2. Make sure your PC security software is up to date and active

Not having security software installed or up to date can really slow you down. Try using Virgin Media Security. It's free and covers all the major security threats. Learn more and download by going to virginmedia.com/security.

3. Make sure your Wi-Fi is secure

Check that your wireless router is password protected and that you've got encryption switched on. Neighbours or anyone in your Wi-Fi range could be using your connection without your knowledge and slowing you down. For more detail on how to avoid this and change these settings go to virginmedia.com/help/wireless.

4. Other members of your household eating up your connection

Large amounts of uploading or downloading could be taking place without your knowledge. The most common application to use large amounts of data is file sharing software. If you use a Windows 98 or XP computer and you're unsure whether file sharing software is installed on computers in your home, or you wish to remove it if it is, a software utility called Digital File Check* is available that can check for you.

This can be found at ifpi.org/dfc * You can also learn more about File Sharing by going to our FAQ virginmedia.com/peaktimefaq

We strongly recommend that you follow these tips in order to get the best broadband performance in future. Especially the first tip of scheduling non-time critical downloads.

There are several tools you can use to check how much you're downloading or uploading such as tbbMeter (thinkbroadband.com/tbbmeter.html *) and there are others available at softpedia.com *

Thank you for your attention.

Yours sincerely

I checked the Shub activity log and saw 2.155Gb over 12 hours (that's 4 users on Pcs and an Xbox). I use a program called Bitmeter on each PC which records all traffic on each PC. I added together the biggest DL days and got one spike of 8Gb in a day in MAY!!

2 Attachment(s)
unzip attached file, using WinSCP connect to your ddwrt router and download the 2 files to the /tmp folder - chmod both files to have execute permissions

create a new txt file in the /tmp folder names macs.txt - This is used to map mac addresses to hostname - format of file is

macaddress,hostname,

now ssh to the ddwrt router, navigate to /tmp folder and run the collect.sh script

you will see following in your console Window

Please wait...
Updating Database
Publish Data To Web Page
Setting Up Bandwidth Monitor
Reading Bandwidth Monitor Data
Please wait...

To view the data navigate to http://router_ip/user/usage.html

attached is screenshot of what you will see

if you reboot the router you will loose the usage data. The data is stored in a usage.db file in /tmp folder - you can modify the script to upload the file to your pc as a backup - so if you need to reboot you can restore the backed up usage data file
