For a feature that belongs back in the 1980's, I think they've done it right. No one should be watching TV as it's broadcast anymore.

I'm not bothered as I will never use it however it would still show up in space used etc with a recording and I would not want that.
With me always hovering around the 90+% used on a 1TB box I would not want a rogue programme or 2 in My shows that I had forgotten I had watched live at the time.

Surely there should be a 'reminder only' option?

Which is the default for all recordings anyway. So what's the point of reminders again?

Wouldnt have thought it would be too hard to do.All they needed to do when setting a reminder was put a reminder entry in my planned recordings. When it came to the time of the reminder just put a message up instead of recording it.

Damn straight :p: Complete waste of resources implementing this. (And yes, I get and agree with all the arguments about live events.)

I don't see why it needs to be "remind and record". Surely just an auto-tune would be sufficient as if you wanted to record it it would be in the buffer so pressing "R" would record the whole programme anyway.

What if you're not in the room when the reminder appears? It doesnt stay on screen for long,I see recording as probably necessary to prevent TiVo using the tuner for another recording i.e. a series link which is clashing.

I knew this would happen when rolled out after seeing it for the first time. Its the way that TiVo implemented it and I am sure they only did it this way as it was the only way to do it on TiVo.

At least when the reminder pops up you can just click cancel the recording and then change the channel.

If you aren't in the room then why set a reminder in the first place. Just record it and you can watch it when you return to the room :)

I set reminders days before, not 10 minutes, how do I know if something's going to distract me.

Which is why it's best to set a recording and Reminders are outdated and redundant functionality.

No it isn't, this is best option for Live sport and in-play betting, it's the only option.

Well in that case if it something you have been planning to watch then you shouldn't be forgetting about it.

However this has been brought up many times before and just goes round in circles.
