Re: Buffer issues!
I hope you won't mind me stepping in - I'm sure Carl can defend himself - but he does raise a valid point, because I don't have this issue either, and more to the point Spiderplant has made it pretty clear that what you're describing shouldn't be happening. If it is (and I'm not for a second disputing what your saying) then perhaps you have a problem with your box and should ask Virgin to send somebody to sort it out?
As for the comments about Carl, I'm sure he'd acknowledge problems with the Virgin network, but he'd let you know the TiVo itself was still working fine ;) |

Be aware that when you play back the recording, it doesn't play from the beginning. It plays from the start of the final programme in the buffer. You have to rewind if you want to watch the previous ones. |

Tried it earlier with this program on QUEST. Had to pop out for a bit, so put it on record. Came back and the program was available to see from the beginning. |
Re: Buffer issues!
Everyone seems to be missing the point of what I tried to explain (except spiderplant) but that also could quite easily be my fault (what I wrote was quite cogent in my head) however I'll try again.
The buffer stability issue will only arise when you are at the very beginning of a buffered channel (1 hour behind time) and when watching from that point is where I have experienced the dropping of 10 minutes or so (it could be less time but I can't measure the lost bit, I may have exaggerated). I don't do it often but enough to see it happen, I can't say it happens on every channel but it has materialised enough for me to be bothered to post. spiderplant then posted what I thought was a good explanation for what might be happening "If the speed of the incoming channel is even slightly faster than the playback, it has to start dropping data". If you are never at the beginning of the buffer you will not have any experience of this issue, he has even proven me completely wrong about my recording the buffer issues. The bottom line is I've got to thank spiderplant and apologise to Carl! |
Re: Buffer issues!
I understood the issue although I have never been in the position of having to watch from the start of the buffer.
Apology accepted. |
Re: Buffer issues!
I've never rewound to the start of the buffer but paused the TV, done something else and it just plays when it's full. Seen what's on, start watching then somewhere down the line the box does what I originally described.
