Not true, one may earn well & therefore lose say £1000/day while another might be unemployed and lose nothing but his time.......

£90 + 3 points for the speeding. £200 + 6 points for the no insurance as he'll probably be uninsured then £125 for plod taking the uninsured motor away. ;)

both are loosing time as to their earnings again it would be in proportion to their ability to earn and where as some on the dole may well end up paying nothing with some sort of sliding scale it would mean they had to do something

The crime isn't anymore serious its the punishment that is, whose it going to hit hardest some one earning ninety pounds an hour or someone earning ninety pounds a week, imo a one size fits all fine system isn't appropriate.

Penalty points alone should be more than enough to stop most drivers from speeding offences.

It might be a good idea that when an offender reaches half of the maximum penalty points, he is banned from driving altogether for 2 weeks or a month, unless it's part of his job, then in that case they get a larger fine and a warning that if they're caught speeding again, then they will lose their license for the same period.

although i feel alot of fines are only there to generate income i think points alone misses the real point of having a penalty which should be to learn to drive better

i think that community service preferably involving helping those hurt by bad driving maybe with driver education classes would be far better

There is another issue.

I have been driving for 24 years and the other day I was driving home stressed, (mum was ill, I had to get to the shops, get some food & medicine) I passed a speed camera on a 40mph strech of road I looked down and I was doing under 45mph, I din't see a flash but it was daytime.

So I may be inline for a fixed penalty, or hopefully the camera wasn't working or was was within the limit for the camera.

So for 1 minor messup in 24 years I face a possibly 3 points which is unfair IMHO, those who constantly speed should be targeted, not those who slip up once.

And if some have there way they will want to know how much you earn because the more you earn means the more severe the crime :rolleyes:

I can see your point. However a court would probably say that if you weren't concentrating due to strell, then you were unfit to drive.

On a brighter note, you are unlikely to get a ticket for 45mph in a 40 limit.
