I did PM you asking you to refrain from personal insults and to ignore anything I said you didn't agree with. I also tried to explain I don't mean to offend you but we have different points of view.

Would make sense for Al-Jazeera just to straight out buy up ESPN UK, given ESPN seem to want to scale down non US operations. Already have the channels set up, with some reasonable rights - just rebrand and off you go.

ESPN is owned by Disney so might cost quite a lot, and as I believe Apple is Disneys biggest share holder I just don't see that happening.

A little off topic however with Rangers being forced into liquidation, and possibly having to start from Divison 3 in Scotland next season, it's strongly rumoured that the SPL's deal with SKY will be ripped up. ESPN already commented that their deal would remain however it has been suggested an urgent review will be conducted in the next 14 days. It'll be interesting to see how many Rangers fans cancel their subscriptions to SKY / ESPN if Rangers do drop out of the league. It'll also be interesting to see how many SPL fans up in Scotland will keep their package if SKY and ESPN drop Scottish football.

Interesting times ahead in the next 2 to 3 weeks for football fans indeed.

Maybe, and I think if ESPN is unsuccessful in winning any rights to the EPL I think they may well pull out of the UK.

Seriously, there is no way in hell Sky will let their crown jewels go. They would break the bank to keep the rights as they know the subscribers would follow even if it cost £4 a month more.

With regards ESPN as stated they want to expand. I cannot see them relenting on the rights to the EPL, and again they have plenty of money to fight.

Al-Jazeera clearly have the money, the question is do they have the desire. There is a lot more to presenting football than spending a shed load of rights. I would only be for them if it meant lower costs, which is not going to happen. As much as I hate to say it, Sky do a splendid job of presenting the EPL and can't see anyone else doing it better.

Livingston had to start again from Division 3, even though they avoided liquidation, so for consistency the same should happen to Rangers who face liquidation.

I would miss Rangers v Celtic games. Is there a way out of this, perhaps a reorganistion of Scottish football with Rangers invited to the top flight?

We will find out at 5pm today the Premier League have announced a press conference to announce the new tv rights.

Without Rangers the SPL is pretty much finished as a competition IMO.

ESPN in XL tv pack post 2012?

As the deal that put ESPN into the XLtv pack runs out in 2013 what will VM do if they can't negotiate a new deal?

Would you still be happy to pay the current fee for XL or would you expect a reduction in the current fee? Maybe of £5 per month?

If ESPN stays in the XL pack there will definitely be a large £3+ increase in the monthly from April 2013 if they ESPN have won some EPL packages today I would expect. An as we know Virginmedia are not afraid of package increase hitting £5-£6 a month.

Knowing Virgin, they will remove ESPN from the XL pack and still put the prices up.

Sky share prices down

Sky shares spike down in post close wrap-up.

Down 2p (were up 9p at close time of 4.30pm).

That does look highly suspicious!
