Its up to the stores really...

i do my shopping online from Tesco and have clearly checked the option to send my shopping with no bags, yet most of the shopping comes packed in bags anyway...

The one near me doesn't...or Sainsburys, Morrisons, Asda, or Waitrose. In fact the only place I have come across recently that still do it is Costco, but they don't give you bags anyway.

The supermarkets near me have had no boxes for years by the checkouts and perhaps this is seen by most supermarkets as a health and safety now and that is perhaps why we don't see them anymore.

It is possible that they got rid of them as part of their risk asessment, on the grounds of it being a possible fire risk. But as long as a fire isn't likely to impede people from reaching an emergency exit, then I can't see it being an issue.

Then there is the possibility that they have done it because it looks untidy. Or even because bags have advertising on them, but boxes don't.

shops don't like using box's anymore in case you cut yourself with the box and you try to sue them. Mind you i always seem to go shopping and not take enough bags with me so i always end up having to get more free ones, or they could charge you 3p per bag like our aldi's do

Shops are recycling boxes these days..as expected to by the local councils.The staff flat pack them as they collect them from around the store.

Our council refuses to recycle or take waste in supermarket plastic bags as they "clog the autosorter machinery"... then issue us with plastic bags with their logo on to put rubbish in.

If they don't want us using them anymore then its simple, TAX them into extinction, Start at 50p then increase it at each budget by 50p per bag. :rolleyes:

The supermarkets would be glad to see the back of them. must cost them a fortune. On the other side of the coin. As the HDPE is a by product of petrol what would happen to that? Personally I would ban plastic blister packs & bottles. Use glass & recycle - its called a deposit - Remember that. As for waste - ban disposable nappies. Cloth ones now that`s true recycling !

I used to love the 3 (old) pence deposit on bottles as I used to find many discarded ones.

But then glass bottles became "non-returnable". Why was that I wonder?

THey have always recycled the majority of boxes, and just left enough at the front of the store.

You can't get better recycling than being used twice, and then being put out in someones recycling bin.

That's just some manager going over the top with their risk asessment. Costco are an American company, so if any company was going to be scared of being sued it would be them.

I got box from tesco if you ask they will provide one. Item was too big for bag it was the only one left managed to get them to sell it.

Asked for box they said they aint got the box for that but did come out with box it would fit.

Plastic used in bins you cant get away from them paper wont work.

Infact yanks give you choice it would be interesting stat which they take. I know which every time plastic.

I want it to last not break then use it as bin liner. Whats the difference from plastic bags for shopping to plastic bags for rubbish the same.

What do they want paper bins. Like I said upto them to seperate the rubbish from plastic recycle it. Sell it to make plastic products or another bag.
