Re: Don't Drink and Drive

according to the latest survey it seems 25% of accidents are caused by drunk drivers .
which means 75% of accidents are caused by sober drivers .
so draw your own conclusions ?

My conclusion would be that the 25% of accidents caused by drunk drivers where completely avoidable and should/need not have happened

Assuming there isn't a 50/50 split between drivers being sober and ratted then my conclusion is drunk or drugged drivers are far, far more likely to be involved in accidents than sober drivers.

Without knowing what percentage of drunk drivers had an accident the figures you mention are meaningless.. but you probably already knew that

My conclusion is that either you are actively advocating drunk driving (you appear to be arguing that driving sober is more dangerous), or that you are naive enough to believe that all accidents are caused by a driver, drunk or sober.

I watched a programme years ago where they did a little experiment to show the effects of drinking on our driving abilities. It was not an exhaustive test by any means, but they had six experienced drivers drive a car simulator. They measured their performance sober, then gave them a few alcoholic drinks each (enough to push them just over the limit IIRC) and repeated the tests with the drunk drivers. Every single one attained a lower score than when they were sober.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but most drunk people are more likely to take chances, and have slower reactions than those who are sober. That's assuming they don't pass out at the wheel.

As for all accidents being caused by a driver, this is stupid. What happens if a small child runs out 6 feet in front of a driver doing 30 in a 30 limit? Who caused that accident? You appear to assume the driver would be responsible. What happens if a tree falls in the road? Is the driver responsible? Drivers are responsible for a lot of accidents, but a lot happen that they aren't responsible for as well..

25% of accidents may be caused by drunk drivers but since drunk drivers probably account for a tiny % of drivers they're causing a disproportionate amount of mayhem.

Some cop cars went by here xmas day very loud sirens but driving slow, so we followed them and they were just going to the police station, since lately in the last year or so their has been excessive sirens I wanted to go in and ask what they playing at but the actual police station was closed. But I will be asking them this week and have it recorded as well.

The only dangerous driving I ever see is the police, sometimes they driving at crazy speeds. They also like to turn their sirens on and off abruptly as if trying to shock people.

I always wondered if pubs could take car keys away from the punters only issue them back if they feel they not over limit.

Read somewhere one was doing it even had a breath test machine would not hand them back unless they was under the limit.

That would be a great idea, but you can guarantee that some civil rights group would be up in arms about it......what about the human rights of the victims I say?

What a stupid statement!!!

Sirens are there for the safety of other traffic as well as emergency vehicles. You have no idea at all why the police car was using it's sirens to go to the police station. It could have been for many reasons, including someome kicking off at the station, and officers sending an urgent assistance message.

Emergency vehicles only drive at high speeds when it is in the interest of the public to do so. They don't do it for the fun of it.

You can't switch sirens on and off gradually

They get plenty of chance to drive around with their sirens on without having to do it for a power trip.
