Re: Multi room streaming
Just because the option is in the menu dosnt mean its operational. I havnt seen anyone post that it actually works.

Re: Multi room streaming
I'm planning on using home plugs for this. Downstairs TIVO is right next to the superhub, and I've got a set of home plugs ready to go once the 2nd TIVO is installed upstairs (and the software update arrives of course!). Looking forward to playing with this.

Re: Multi room streaming
It's probably not been announced because most customers will need instructions on how to do it

Is that some form of semi-confirmation that it is in this update, your just keeping it quiet so as not to confuse the technophobes! ;) |
Re: Multi room streaming
I'm not confirming anything, I'm just going off the facts that:
1) People with the update are saying that there is a menu option 2) The US TiVo requires a connection to your router to do anything cool ;) 3) Majority of customers require instructions for anything networking related |

I just hope that they don't hold back release of streaming due to support issues with most non technical customers (very large percentage) I would hope that they may just enable it and leave it as unsupported if that were the case but unlikely. |

Re: Multi room streaming
I am surprised that it needs to be connected to your router as both tivos are already connected to VM's network. The US tivo's generally aren't in this situation.
However, talking to Tivo tech support a while ago regarding something else, he thought it could be via your LAN. |
Re: Multi room streaming
I would expect that the data requirements are quite high. Remember that the upload on a 10Mbit connection is only at most 1Mbit (in upgraded areas). Even the web iPlayer needs more than that for 'HD'
The LAN connection via a router is 100Mbit at least in both directions (not sure if it's 100Mbit or a 1Gb LAN connection in the back of the TiVo box) |
Re: Multi room streaming
If you built a system to stream video around your house you wouldn't do it over the internet would you? Not if both devices sat on a LAN.

Simplistic thinking though. |

If you were streaming from one box to another over the internet you would have to upload the recording as well as download it, and the width of your up pipe is a LOT less then your down pipe. |
