Reset the CMOS on the existing mb before you start tearing things apart.

Not sure if it's in all versions of Windows, but running the sysprep command on the command line with the "/generalize" option will force Windows to redetect all hardware.

you can't run sysprep from the repair command line :(

Acronis have a plus pack for their true image software that lets you change hard drives onto different motherboards if you want to spend some money.
