Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
As its not pm
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/08/94.png hopefully its due to the headend being upgraded for 10% upload speed |
Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
I'd have hoped they'd bother notifying us of that kind of work if it's going to drop my connection speeds by 90%...
|
Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
I was thinkning that myself, the upgrade. I've asked other 50meg customers who aren't in Edinburgh and they have seen no slowdown. The routers at LINX->OVH are at around %55 utilisation(well the routers after linx).

Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
6 days in a row now. I'm starting to consider bringing up my backup connection...
|
Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
Getting seriously ****ed off with it now.

Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
Another victim of this in EH11, all is fine & dandy at 7:30am.. but as soon as it’s the evening the speeds are a joke.
I cant see it being STM either |
Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
on the phone again tonight
|
Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
I'm in EH11 too, just seen this thread or I wouldnt have made my own post :s
I called Virgin and they've booked an engineer, they didnt say anything about a local fault or some such. I've been a customer for 6 days, not a good start |
Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues

Well I should be on 50meg & it's def not that at the mo. Did the guy on the phone say anything about the reason why this is going on? As well as any idea when it will get fixed. Cheers |
Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
Nope, no further info I'm afraid

Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
Do a tracert to where you are having problems.
Roubiax: https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/08/70.png Amsterdam: https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/08/71.png Paris: https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/08/72.png New York: https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/08/73.png Virgin Media peer with OVH and you'll find that quite a few sites in Europe will be on OVH. If you are trying to get to Europe it's most like you'll be routed through Roubiax. If you phone up tech support mention the words "virgin peer with ovh" in your converstion and ask the agent to pass your info onto the network engineers. |
Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
Just added that proxy here and went from 2M to 47M, should it be ok to use this for the timebeing?
|
Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
Apart from OVH suck, what have they got to do with anything?
---------- Post added at 22:39 ---------- Previous post was at 22:35 ---------- The webcache probably helps by making it so that your IP stack has to deal with a slightly shorter round trip when managing the congestion/fault/whatever it is. Neither fixes or works around the problem completely though. [Edit] No, that's not it. Made a difference for me too, but not nearly enough: https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/08/68.png Without https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/08/69.png With ---------- Post added at 22:42 ---------- Previous post was at 22:39 ---------- Quote:

Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues
I'm EH11 and spotted this over the past week as well but haven't had much usage recently so hasn't bothered me much. Will speak to the headend guys in the morning and see if I can get an answer.
