Pizza?? Its a beachball isn't it :D

I am on Snow Leopard just now. Not sure about Lion yet. Apple seem to be turning OSX into iOS bit by bit.

It looks like Lion is going to be 64-bit only (although it'll no doubt run 32-bit apps just fine), as it requires a minimum of a Core 2 Duo CPU, so those with one of the Core Solo or Core Duo machines are out of luck.

Your Mac must have an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 or Xeon processor to run Lion. Find out if your current Mac has one of these processors by clicking the Apple icon at the top left of your screen, then choosing About This Mac.

Mmm. No Lion for me then ... My mac's a regular core duo.

Confused about iCloud though - if I use my iPad to sign up to it, how can it not continue to provide email service to a Mac running Snow Leopard? It's just IMAP mail when all's said and done. They have also only just shifted iCal over to CalDAV which is supposed to be standards based. Or are they going to dump standards and devise something new to try to tie people in?

Mine is a Core 2 Duo. Can we pre order it?

Re: Mac OS X Lion

No, you can't. No need to anyway, as Lion is download-only. Make sure you have Snow Leopard up to date, then have a look in your Dock. You should see the App Store icon; click it to go to the Mac App Store once Lion is released and download it from there.

Yep got 10.6.7 at the mo, with the app store sitting in my dock. Seems a bit strange it only listed a processor compatibility

All the Mac models that have a compatible processor have the specs required to run Lion.

Just a thought. Say if I install it, then need to reformat for whatever reason, will I need to pay to download it a second time?

That is one of many questions left unanswered by Apple's annoucement this week.

I would suspect not, because it seems to me that iCloud is going to have some sort of ability to remember what you have bought and give you repeat access to it.

Seems right for OS X releases, some unfortunate wording.

Sorry cheap shot :p:

The App Store remembers your purchases, much like the iOS App Store, and you can download purchased applications as many times as you wish. :)

iCloud adds this ability to iTunes and the ability to download purchased applications to any other compatible device automatically. As well as syncing documents made with iWork and settings/file/data from any other application in which the developer has implemented the functionality.

Apparently the developer previews of Lion (via the App Store) download a disk image with the installer on. It's not known yet whether you can burn the disk image as a bootable DVD but you should at least be able to back it up to external media for re-installation.

Looks like you can create a bootable DVD or USB dongle from the downloaded Lion installer.

Some sort of convergence between iOS and OSX, perhaps.
