Yes, which is why I said it wouldn't be allowed.. It's not freedom of religion they're practising it's just plain old hatred of things they think is against religion.

Tolerance is one thing, but allowing people to use religion as an excuse to break the law should never happen.

picketing is one thing but to do it at funerals is just antagonistic and down right insensitive - what did they think would happen? must have known that it would happen sometime just surprised it hadn't happened sooner.

The best bet is surely to do what the Yanks in the second link did and ridicule them through their own chosen medium of signs. I don't think attacking them will help, as extreme groups like this tend to thrive on adversity and hatred.

From a Christian perspective, I don't know anyone in real life or from the Christian forums I frequent who supports their view. I can identify the message they're trying to give but IMO they are going about it completely the wrong way and instead of preaching a message of love, peace and tolerance they give off an aura of hate. I've got no doubts their elders know more about the Bible than I but I could never agree with their actions which I feel are just short of terrorism.

That said, I don't agree with vigilante against them. Denying them service because of their views.....what if service was denied tio someone because they were actively pro-gay rights?

This sort of thing will give them more ammuniton and will probably make them 'fight' harder.

As has been previously mentioned they need to be ignored. They trade in shock value - cutting off their supply of attention will be far more effective.

Russ, i do remember reading something about the nutball that started the church. One of his "Idols" so to speak who he has apparently refurred to a few times was also homosexual but he has never mentioned this.

Im sorry Maggy,i mean its sad someone would do this to anyone (Slashing thier tires) i cant stand all the evilness and hatred in this world......

Just read the backstory in future Dude.. The fact that you are Christian enough to deplore the behaviour of slashed tyres does you credit,but do remember what this group does is very disrespectful to the dead and to the families whom have lost precious loved ones.However strongly one feels against the Iraq war is no reason to behave this way at a funeral.

Louis Theroux was on One Show today plugging a follow up to his scary/interesting documentary from a few years ago about Westboro Baptist Church.

He said that they`ve seen his original documentary, so now he`d featured in their hate campaign! he also said some of the family saw his documentary, and have since left the organisation and wanted to talk to him about his, saying he was part of the reason for them leaving.

We really like Louis Theroux, kind of miss his old material which was lighter, fluffier, and funny for the right reasons, rather than the more recent scary ones!
