I don't think the law needed to change ,as far as i understood it you only got benefits(job seekers) as long as you were available for work ,if you are not looking for work or unable to work then you don't get anything ,that has always been the case as far as i know .In the case i have posted about she will still get money for the 2 yr old but nothing for herself untill she proves she is looking for work ,or becomes pregnant again ,i believe the latter will put her on a different benefit i think

I have very little knowledge of the benefit system so am willing to be corrected ;)

pregnancy they will get income support, the same as JSA but no work required.

im expecting my second child in april i am currently unemployed (lost job end december) but my girlfriend works 16 hours (going on maternity in 4 weeks) and earns about £100 per week.. the job centre LAUGHED in my face when i tryed to claim JSA they would not even pay MY STAMP... how about that..

Did they give a reason why they wouldn't pay your stamp.

When I was made redundant, and given pay in lieu of notice, I still signed on to get my NI paid.

they said i hadnt payed enough NI apparently however they said the year 06 and 07 (both years i was at college and also had a weekend job earning around £130 per week) and since leaving college i have been in constant employment too (except since december 10 - current), believe it or not they actually ADVISE me NOT to appeal

I would appeal, or at least gain some more clarity from them - I have been made redundant a couple of times (with pay in lieu of notice), and have always been able to sign on just for the NI payment (no other benefit).

Appeal definately that is bang out of order and as for the pregger's girl i am not surprised it is a common attitude amongst a small group of people these days and sickens me as well. I think the government has the right to say that if someone claims benefit they must accept they cannot keep knocking kids out and have to act responsibly while in reciept of benefit sadly though you would have to get some in a classroom and explain responsibility before that could happen.

exact same thing happened to my son , he was beside himself with worry about how to survive so i pointed him in the direction of the black economy ,good wages no tax and no questions.. as far as i am concerned the government had their chance to help ,and a man has a duty to provide for his family whatever it takes .
