Mr Gilbert admitted the theft and received a police caution.

Do you call that justice?? This thief then asks for his pay packet?? What kind of message does this send out? Rob your employer, get away with it, then claim your pay?

What if he robbed you??

I would tell the police and give them all the evidence.I would not do what was done.

If the correct procedure had been followed the criminal would have been dealt with by the law and the victim of the theft would not have to pay out damages.
