So when you return to the lobby at the end of a game after a good old pummelling, we moan like old dears blaming our crappy broadband speeds causing the problem. When in reality its just the host that always gets an unfair advantage |
Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...
Being host in Black Hops does not give you an advantage, trust me, I end up being the host a lot. You actually end up disadvantaged!!
Also I have my game search set for locale only which does seem to be working now, so don't get in games with Americans too often. I just thought it was worth a shot and someone may have said do this or that. I did drop my MTU from 1500 to 1478 and disabled SPI, which I saw on here somewhere that did give me slightly better download speeds and yes I did do a few tests ;) |
Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...
Interesting you say the host gets disadvantaged, I would tend to disagree based on my experience so would you care to expand a little more.
I tried the MTU tweak several times dropping in increments of 10, from 1500 down to 1300 and never noticed a discernible difference in gaming. |
Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...
I believe VM block windows sharing ports? for security reasons.

NTL block ports Telewest block ports Virgin Mobile block ports I'd say Virgin definitely do block ports. |
Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...
there is problems with black ops server for sure on both consoles as i get lag quite a few times a night on the xbox it suppose to change host straight away and as usual it doesn't.
i had a game last night and the fella was making the game lag badly but he wouldn't leave the lobby cheating tit m8 it was worse when map packs came out all the little booster from MW2 and cheats and most of them are kids |

Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...
Hi, newbie here.
Having some probs with VM and gaming and came across this post via google. It sure does seem to affect gaming. Black Ops on the PS3 is unplayable between 5pm and midnight weekdays and for about 12 hours a day on Saturday & Sunday on VM (in my area) at the moment. Pretty much as soon as it hits 5pm I go from hosting & playing in 4 bar 'green' lobbies all nice and smooth (as far as cod goes online...) to 1 red dot or 2 yellow bars, can't run through doorways without getting dragged back through and stuck in a corner, can't throw grenades, this is if I'm lucky enough to get on the PSN at all. It can't be coincidence that it's the same time every day, the same time they moderate p2p traffic. It's a shame because the service is excellent at non peak times. Hosting is 50/50 in my experience - good host/bad host. Bad host is when the games smooth as you like but nobody you shoot dies and you end up getting about 2 kills and 18 assists in a standard tdm, it's lag compensation (compensating a bit too much!) according to gaming sites. Have a lovely day. |
