Re: Does Kaspersky actually slow down your BB or just skew the results?
You have bought the product which will work fine as long as you ignore the speedtests so nothing really to worry about.

Re: Does Kaspersky actually slow down your BB or just skew the results?
The speed that your internet connection is able to go at cannot be affected by the security software on your computer. The internet will serve up the data as fast as the line bandwidth permits, the sending computer or server can issue it, and your own PC can accept it.
Inevitably any security software will affect the speed at which data becomes available to you on your machine. The security software, depending on it's settings, will need to scan the data being received, a process which must take a moment in time. Some programmes will scan on the fly as the stuff is coming in packet by packet, other stuff will get scanned once the file is more complete. If your PC is ready for a data packet to be received it will accept it. But if your PC is busy dealing with the last bit because some secirity software is busy checscanning the last file, it might reject the next bit, so appearing to slow up your connection. |

I have uninstalled it (reluctantly, after paying for it) and now I'm using 'Avira' which seems fine - but my internet seems to be running much more smoothly now - placebo effect?:monkey: |

Re: Does Kaspersky actually slow down your BB or just skew the results?
I've been a Kaspersky user for several years now and think it's the best AV package available. Just tried a download from Blueyonder games with kaspersky on/off and it makes no difference to the download speed. Sometimes I get wild fluctuations in speed when using Speedtest.net but clearing the cache usually sorts this, unsure if it's KIS related

I get Kaspersky as part of my barclays additions account and yes, it does skew speed test results.
It also slows my PC down to a crawl, to, but I haven't really found a proper alternative yet. |
Re: Does Kaspersky actually slow down your BB or just skew the results?
Hmm, running Kaspersky for Workstations 6.0 MP4 myself, not noticing any slowdowns on my desktop or laptop. Laptop was pretty slow to begin with though, and the desktop's pretty powerful. It has no effect on your speedtest results if you turn off the firewall/web components and file access speed isn't unusually affected for me either.
Read somewhere once that Microsoft Security Essentials was one of the fastest free AV programs that did anything useful, unfortunately not been finding the speed aspect particularly true in my experience. |
Re: Does Kaspersky actually slow down your BB or just skew the results?
Hi Guys
Not sure if this is helpful, I'm not as tecked up as some of you but have been using Kaspersky for a couple of years after dumping Norton, It does affect my download speeds so I tried Virgin's own system, speed improved but it kept wanting to scan ( half hour a time!! ) so back to Kaspersky and then I found this:- http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=17519 Seems to work but not sure if fully protected still? Anway hope it helps |

MSE was slow for me also. Granted I only tried it on my laptop, however labeling something as fast should really mean it is means its suitable for low end stuff. However its decent for something thats free.
