The thing is Art, we can and do "defend" our own people and our own way of life. Our way of life is long-established and built on freedom. In the face of protests like this it is like throwing pebbles at a 10ft thick castle wall. We defend ourselves by letting them have their fun, then shrugging our shoulders and getting on with life.

Idiot protests like this just bounce off. They aren't going to achieve anything and they aren't going to change anything. The only time we would actually need to take medieval steps like banishing people or hanging them for this sort of thing would be if we were an insecure medieval society, rather than a complex, mature and stable democracy.

All l hope it that they don't try it tomorrow of all days.

To all the services for tomorrow l say 'thank you for giving us that freedom that we cherish'

Where to begin.........

I agree with you that burning poppies is disgraceful, but bear in mind these idiots are doing this to provoke reactions, and by over-reacting we would be validating what they say (muslims are oppressed and other such bolleaux).

I served for 3 years in a city (West Berlin) surrounded by a country ruled by those who brooked no dissent, no differing views, and stamped down hard on those who thought and behaved differently from the world-view the government put forward - I defended the rights of those in that city, and in my country, to speak out, and to put forward uncomfortable and differing views; why should we not give the same rights and freedoms to others in our own country today.

Thank you for your thanks, but please remember the defense of freedom is being done for all, not just for some, and to try and deny some those rights would defeat what those who serve serve for - cherish freedom for all, not just those who agree with you.

Burning poppys, the Quran, or anything else like that is just simply disrespectful.

Those who do such things should be ashamed of themselves.

PORTSMOUTH'S muslim leaders have condemned those who protested outside the city's mosque.
Scores of demonstrators gathered outside Portsmouth's Jami Mosque this evening. They were protesting after a small group of Muslims - not from the city - burned poppies in London during the two minutes' silence on Armistice Day.

The protest, led by former soldier David Tallard, congregated outside the mosque at midday and numbered only a few.

It broke for Pompey's home game against Doncaster, and gathered again shortly after 5pm this time with scores more taking part.

And we would have been happy to have a poppy painted on the mosque
I find that hard to believe as I thought there was still Islam to think about when it comes to these things?

A large number of Brits wear poppies in commemoration of the victims of all wars fought by British citizens, including Muslims.
This is not something we should be supporting. We are not sanctioned to support poppies by the Sharia law, The Daily Star quoted Choudhary as saying.
He added: Were talking about the Second World War and this doesnt have anything to do with Muslims. Muslims are not allowed to participate in anything that is clearly British nationalism.

Isn't that a bit like going to worship at a church but not being a Christian?

Some Muslims can think for themselves and can arrive at a completely different conclusion about what the Koran means compared to those whom consider themselves Islamist.

After all there are several hundred different flavours of Christian around the world.

There really is no point in getting angry with these morons, by trying their best to come up with evermore odious ways to insult the British people, they are just isolating themselves from any sane person in the UK...be they Christian, Jew, Muslim or Fulham supporter.

I find the story and photos are a total disgrace against every member of the armed services, that will be remembered on Sunday.

And the worst part is that some members of our society will agree with what they are doing. and the culprits will get away with it.

their just protesting about the presence of our troops in the peaceful Islamic paradise of Afghanistan

You appear to have accidently left off the next few lines of that two year old article, Gary....

However, other Muslims in Britain so not share the same opinion.

Dewsbury MP Shahid Malik, the Governments first-ever Muslim minister, said: "As patron of the Royal British Legion in Dewsbury I'll be selling poppies in the town centre this Saturday. I think its really important to remember the freedoms we enjoy come at a price and sometimes the ultimate price.

The truth is that no matter what your background, we all must remember that people died for this country and the freedoms we hold dear and that is why Im proud to wear my poppy".
