I think I speak for the vast majority when I say, I couldn't give a toss.

Not really adding to the discussion, but apart from the actual inconvenience of having to change the clocks in my possesion that don't change themselves I fail to see how it matters.

Then so long as enough people don't care there should be no problem at all with changing it so that we stay on BST indefinitely as of next year :)

But that's not the change that's being proposed. The idea is to go onto CET (Central European Time). The clocks will still go back and forwards as now, just an hour ahead of where we are. GMT+1 (BST) in the winter and GMT+2 (BST+1) in the summer.

Original proposal

That was what I meant but I wrote it really badly, doing too many things at once... thanks for the correction and the opportunity to clarify!

If you need to deal with problems from those parts, why can't your working hours change to be in line? I find this reason, often given by big business, to be rather lame (no offence intended).

It clearly will benefit the UK as a whole.

Clearly? How? Those business that feel it necessary to work same hours as Europe can change their hours - "problem" (if it exists) solved.

I don't suppose that most of you experienced the trial in the late 60's early 70's - it went down like a lead balloon!

Yes I remember - over 30 years and a generation ago! Society has changed quite dramatically since then - technology has moved on and so has the way that people think and behave!

It's commonly referred to as socialogical evolution!
