No argument from me there. If there was more scrutiny and may I suggest transparancy then maybe the general public wouldn't think we were betting such a good deal.

Again, i'm not going to multi-quote, however just picking up a few points. No, i'm not saying that downward post regrading and wage reductions don't happen in the private sector, I know they do. What I am saying is that that happen in the public sector as well

As to lack of ambition, no it's not that. Read my post in the DVLA thread relating to my disability, i'm afraid private sector employers aren't too keen on touching me.

Yes I do mean 9%, that's based on gross pay, i'll work it out based on net pay if you need me to, but obviously that'll work out higher.

I'm slightly puzzled by the "you have total control" bit. All i'm trying to do is to make sure people are aware that private sector management strategies such as job evalation, re-structuring, mergers, redundancy is/are, happening in the public sector.

It'll be interesting in a couple of years when the LA I work for is basically Councillors and a couple of directors/senior managers who are sat there controlling and directing private partner organisations.
