They probably should make it optional, both for those who are deaf and want to view programs at normal times and those who do not need it. Guess the bigwigs won't shell out for it.

Making it optional would require the broadcasting two channels. Either that, or zooming the picture so that the signer was cut off.
There have been demonstration systems where the STB software rather than a person does the signing, but that's way beyond the capabilities of current STBs. |

Well you could, but the broadcasters are still required to provide some signed linear content.
Don't forget not everybody can get On Demand. |
