Thanks for that, it is appreciated.

I've been using FireFox as browser of choice for years. First thing I do with any browser is set the privacy settings as I don't save any passwords or usernames, etc. on my main PC so I did know where to go for this problem!!!

Another thing I do, is on my laptop I use FireFox for all "secure" computing with privacy settings set to clear everything on exit, and I have IE8 and Opera with less draconian settings for less sensitive stuff. Maybe it's overkill but better safe than sorry I say!!! :)

If you want to be automatically logged into everything all the time without sacrificing security, check out Lastpass via your favourite search engine. It is a secure password manager that allows you to take your passwords with you across browsers and on any PC.

I have just started using Firefox Sync for bookmark syncing and have just found out it does passwords too, is that thee same sort of thing as Lastpass?

Take a look at https://lastpass.com/ and draw your own conclusion. I think you'll like it.

Yes i kinda know what it is, it seems to to let me save my passwords with them and stop me forgetting rather than have them sync on both computers, it may come in handy if i was to forget passwords or not have them saved on my computers for security reasons. :)

Yes - you log into Lastpass with one password and it takes care of logging into everything else for you. Also fills forms and credit card details if you want it too.

I use Sxipper as it signs you in automatically and can fill in forms for you.

If you google it supports most browsers.

I'd never trust anything with my credit card details lol

Neither do I, although lastpass is very handy for forums.etc

Also if you have the paid version (which is only a few $) you can setup multifactor auth.etc

I've used it since about 0.3 when it was called Weave, but I've always held the server locally. It used to be a right pain when they kept changing the server setups. Great piece of kit, and I think the sync is becoming integral to 4.x.

Now if only it would work in Thunderbird as well...

Re: Firefox 3.6.8 wants me to log in to CF

I've recently experienced the same problem, although not immediately after upgrading to 3.6.8. Although it may have just been a coincidence, it happened after applying a MS update(XP security fix). The username/passwords were still 'remembered', so I didn't have to try to recall the details, but the cookies(I assume) that tells the sites to remain logged in, seem to have gone. This happened to all sites(eg Radio Times) that I use, not just CF. I'm not quite sure how the proposed solutions would help, as the problem was that you do not normally have to be logging in at all.
